# Create a Namecheap API key

Connect your Namecheap account to InfraNest by turning on API access and gathering your credentials. This article is for anyone setting up domain management through Namecheap.

## Overview
- InfraNest needs three things from Namecheap: API access turned on, your API credentials, and InfraNest's IP address approved.
- You'll do most of this work in your Namecheap account, then return to InfraNest to finish connecting.

## Turn on API access and get your key
1. Sign in to Namecheap.
2. Go to **Profile → Tools → API Access**.

3. Enable API access. Namecheap may first require a minimum balance or spend on your account.
4. Copy your **API username** and **API key**.

## Approve InfraNest's IP address
Namecheap only accepts API requests from approved IP addresses.

1. InfraNest shows the exact IP address to approve on the connect screen — copy it.
2. Add it to your **Whitelisted IPs** in Namecheap's API Access settings.

> Namecheap also offers a sandbox for testing. Most people should use their normal account; only an admin can connect a sandbox account.
