# Create a TransIP API key

> To connect TransIP, InfraNest needs your account name and an API key (a private key).

To connect your TransIP account to InfraNest, you'll first need to create an API key in the TransIP control panel. This article is for anyone setting up a TransIP integration for the first time.

## Overview
- InfraNest needs two things from TransIP: your account name and a private key.
- You create both directly in the TransIP control panel, outside of InfraNest.
- Once you have them, you'll enter them into InfraNest to finish connecting your account.

## Create the key
1. Sign in to the TransIP control panel.
2. Go to **Settings → API**.

3. Turn on API access and generate a key pair.
4. Copy the private key.

5. Note your account name (your TransIP username) — you'll need it too.

> Leave the key's IP-address restriction off (or add InfraNest's IP address) so the key works from InfraNest.
