# Manage a server

Managing a server is where you control everything about it — power, rebuilds, recovery, networking, and what it costs you. This is for anyone who needs to check on, fix, or fine-tune a server they're running in InfraNest.

## Overview

- Control a server's power state, rebuild it from an image, or boot into a recovery environment.
- Protect it from accidental deletion.
- Manage its public network, private networks, IPv6, and reverse DNS.
- See a full breakdown of everything the server is costing you, not just the plan price.

## Control power and lifecycle

1. Open the server you want to manage.
2. Go to the **Power & Maintenance** tab.
3. Use **Power** to reboot, **Shutdown**, **Power on**, **Power off**, or do a **Power Reset**.
4. Use **Rebuild** to reinstall the server from an image.
5. Use **Rescue** to boot into a recovery environment if the server won't start normally — this turns on **Rescue mode enabled**.
6. Use **Reset root password** if you need a new one, or attach and remove an ISO from the **ISO Images** tab.
7. Use **Console** to open a live web console straight to the server.

> [!WARNING]
> **Rebuild** reinstalls the server from scratch and erases its current contents. Take a **Snapshot** first if you might need the data.

## Protect a server from deletion

1. Open the server.
2. Find the delete protection setting (shown as **Delete protection is off** or **Delete protection enabled**).
3. Turn it on so the server can't be removed by accident.

## Manage networking

1. Open the server and go to the **Networking** tab.
2. Manage the **Public network**, attach or review a **Private network**, configure **IPv6**, and set reverse DNS with **Edit reverse DNS** (see **Set reverse DNS (PTR)**).

## Check what this server costs

1. Open the server and find the **Cost** panel.
2. Review the **Monthly price** — read from your provider where possible, or set yourself using **Change**.
3. Check whether **backups**, any **Attached volumes**, **IP addresses**, or **Snapshot** are adding to the total.
4. Add any cost the provider doesn't know about — like a licence or support — yourself.

> [!NOTE]
> A server's public IPv4 is usually billed separately from the server itself with most providers, so it's listed as its own line rather than folded into the plan price. Each line here is counted once — the same volume or snapshot isn't also billed separately in your **Spend** report. Prices shown exclude VAT and are estimates; your provider's invoice is the final word.

## Tips

- Every action you take on a server — power changes, rebuilds, password resets — is recorded in your **Audit Log**, so you can always check back on what happened and when.
