# Use a custom domain for your status page

Give your status page a professional look by hosting it on your own domain, with HTTPS handled for you automatically.

## Overview
- Replace the default InfraNest address with your own, like `status.example.com`.
- InfraNest handles verification and HTTPS setup for you — no certificates to manage.
- You'll need access to your domain's DNS settings to add one record.

## Set up a custom domain
1. Open your status page and go to **Custom domain**.
2. Select **Add a custom domain**.
3. InfraNest shows you the exact **CNAME target** to use. Copy it and add it as a CNAME record in your domain's DNS settings.

4. Return to InfraNest — the page will show **Pending verification** while it checks your DNS record.
5. Once InfraNest confirms the record, the status changes to **Domain verified**, and HTTPS is set up automatically. There's nothing further to configure.

> If your domain's DNS is already managed in InfraNest, you can add the CNAME directly from the **DNS** module instead of switching tools. Custom domains may only be available on certain plans.

## Troubleshooting
- **Domain error**: Double-check that the CNAME record matches the **CNAME target** shown by InfraNest exactly, including any trailing characters.
- **Not pointing to the right target**: Your DNS record exists but points somewhere else — edit it to match the target InfraNest gave you.
- **Domain pending**: DNS changes can take time to spread across the internet. Wait a bit and check back; verification will complete automatically once your DNS provider updates.

> DNS changes aren't always instant. If verification hasn't completed after a few hours, confirm the record was saved correctly with your DNS provider.
