Trigger InfraNest automations from Linear issues and events

Two-way automation: Linear webhooks trigger InfraNest workflows, and InfraNest actions create, comment on, and update Linear issues.

Connect Linear to InfraNest to automate issue lifecycle and event-driven workflows. Issues created in Linear trigger InfraNest automations, which in turn create new issues, add comments, or update workflow states on chosen teams.

  • Issue creation trigger: When an issue is created in Linear, InfraNest receives the issue details, assignee, and creator, and can fire automation rules in response.
  • Issue update trigger: Changes to issue state, including workflow transitions and reassignments, trigger InfraNest automations with the previous and current state.
  • Create issues from events: InfraNest automation rules can create issues on a chosen Linear team, with fields mapped from the triggering event.
  • Update workflow state: Automation rules can move issues between workflow states (e.g., from Backlog to In Progress) on demand.
  • Comment on issues: Add comments to existing Linear issues as part of an automation response, attributed to the connected user.
  • Comment creation trigger: Comments added to Linear issues can trigger InfraNest automations, carrying the comment text and author.

NoteInfraNest does not manage Linear projects, cycles, or roadmaps. Issues are created as the person who authorised the connection, not a service bot, so they appear normally in Linear's activity feed. Project and cycle assignment must be done in Linear itself.

What you can do

Once Linear is connected, this is what InfraNest can do with it.

  • Trigger automations from issue creation, updates, and comments
  • Create issues on Linear teams from InfraNest events
  • Update issue workflow states automatically
  • Comment on issues as part of workflows
  • Bi-directional automation with live team and state pickers
  • Issues appear as your user, not a bot

Not supported

InfraNest does not manage Linear projects, cycles, or roadmaps — those remain in Linear's own interface.

How to connect it

  1. 1

    Authorise InfraNest in Linear

Click 'Connect' in InfraNest Settings → Providers → Linear. You will be prompted to authorise InfraNest to read and write issues on your behalf via Linear's OAuth. Approve to complete the connection.

  2. 2

Set up your first automation rule

In InfraNest Automations, create a rule with a Linear webhook trigger (issue created, updated, or comment added) and choose an action: create a new issue, update an issue state, or add a comment. The builder shows live pickers for Linear teams and workflow states.

  3. 3

    Test the connection

Create or update a test issue in Linear to verify the webhook fires and your automation rule executes as expected.

That’s it — Linear is connected.

Set up with AI

I use Linear, and I want to connect it to InfraNest (infranest.io) — it manages domains, DNS, servers and certificates across providers. InfraNest asks for: OAuth token with read and write scopes (one-click), or personal API key starting lin_api_. Walk me through creating that in Linear: where each setting is in the current interface, whether a read-only option exists, and how to check it works before I paste it in.

What syncs

What InfraNest keeps in sync with Linear.

Issue eventsIssue creation, updates, state changes, and reassignments trigger automations.
Comment eventsNew comments on Linear issues trigger automations with comment text and author.
Workflow statesLive picker of available workflow states for each team, enabling state transitions in automations.
Teams and assigneesLive picker of teams for issue creation, and assignee details carried in webhook events.

Questions

#Does connecting Linear change how issues appear in Linear?

No. Issues created by InfraNest automations appear as normal issues created by the connected user — they show in the activity feed and behave identically to issues created manually.

#Can I revoke the Linear connection?

Yes. Disconnect Linear in InfraNest Settings → Providers. This stops all automations that use Linear triggers or actions. You can reconnect at any time.

#Does InfraNest replace Linear's own workflows?

No. InfraNest automations complement Linear's workflows — they are best for cross-tool event-driven actions (e.g. monitoring alert → create Linear issue). Linear's own workflow automation and cycle management remain in Linear itself.
