This article is for anyone who needs to connect their Dynadot account to InfraNest so it can manage domains automatically.
#Overview
- InfraNest talks to Dynadot using an API key and a signing secret, not a regular sign-in.
- You create both in your Dynadot account, then paste them into InfraNest's Dynadot connect form.
- A webhook setup is optional and makes updates arrive instantly instead of waiting for InfraNest's next check.
#Create the key
Sign in to Dynadot.
Go to Tools → API.
Create an API key and choose the v2 (REST) version. InfraNest uses v2.
Copy the API key and the API secret shown next to it.
Paste both into InfraNest — see Connect Dynadot.
WarningThe secret signs every request. Store it somewhere safe; if you lose it, create a new key pair rather than trying to recover it.
#Leave the IP allowlist empty
Dynadot lets you limit a key to certain IP addresses. Leave that empty: InfraNest doesn't connect from one fixed address, so with an allowlist its requests can be refused no matter how correct your key is.
#Set up live updates by webhook (optional)
Dynadot can notify InfraNest when something changes, instead of waiting for the next sync.
- On the Tools → API → Webhook page, set the callback URL to the Callback URL shown in InfraNest's Dynadot connect form, under Real-time webhooks (optional).
- Dynadot then shows a Webhook key and a Webhook secret.
- Paste both into InfraNest.
NoteThis step is optional — everything works without it, just less immediately. InfraNest still checks Dynadot on its usual schedule either way.
#Tips
- Keep the API key and API secret somewhere safe until you've pasted them into InfraNest — you won't be able to view the secret again later.
- If a request from InfraNest ever gets refused, check that the IP allowlist on your Dynadot key is still empty.
