Create an IONOS API key

To connect IONOS, InfraNest needs an API key. The same key covers DNS, domains and certificates.

Connecting IONOS to InfraNest requires an API key that you create in your IONOS account. This guide is for anyone setting up DNS, domain or certificate management for IONOS in InfraNest.

#Overview

  • The API key you create covers DNS, domains and certificates all at once — you only need to make it once.
  • You'll create the key directly in IONOS, then bring it back to InfraNest to finish connecting.

#Create the key

  1. Go to developer.hosting.ionos.com/keys and sign in. If you're on InfraNest's IONOS connect form, the Open the token page link takes you straight there.
  2. Create an API key for Domains & DNS.
  1. Your key has two parts — a prefix and a secret — shown together as prefix.secret.
  2. Copy the whole value, including the part before the dot. IONOS shows the secret only once, so make sure you capture it now.

WarningCopy the full prefix.secret value. Leaving off the prefix (the part before the dot) is the most common cause of an "authentication failed" error.

#Next step

Go back to InfraNest and follow Connect IONOS to paste your key.
