Connect IONOS

Connect your IONOS account to InfraNest to manage your DNS records, domains and SSL certificates in one place. This is for anyone using IONOS as their domain or DNS provider.

#Overview

• Links your IONOS account to InfraNest using an API key.
• Lets you manage DNS records, domain settings and certificates from InfraNest instead of switching to the IONOS control panel.
• One connection covers DNS, Registrar and Certificates features.
• InfraNest keeps things up to date automatically — zones, domains and certificates refresh about once an hour, and each domain's details every six hours.

#Before you start

You'll need an IONOS API key — the full prefix.secret value. See Create an IONOS API key for the steps. The same key covers DNS, domains and certificates.

#Connect IONOS

1. Go to Integrations and open IONOS.
2. Give the connection an Account label (Optional). Leave it blank and it takes the provider's name — a second connection to the same provider becomes "… (1)", so they stay tellable apart.
3. Choose which features to use it for: DNS, Registrar and Certificates.
4. Paste your full API key (prefix.secret).
5. Leave Email me when this integration has problems ticked if you'd like email warnings.
6. Select Connect.

#What you get once it's connected

• DNS — your zones and their records. Add, edit and delete records, for any domain whose zone is at IONOS.
• Domains — see your IONOS domains with their expiry, change nameservers and contacts, lock transfers, turn WHOIS privacy on or off, and get the transfer (EPP) code. InfraNest also shows when IONOS has put a domain on hold or is waiting for the owner to verify their email address.
• DNSSEC — add DNSSEC keys to a domain that uses nameservers somewhere other than IONOS.
• SSL certificates — your IONOS certificates appear in your certificate list.

NoteInfraNest refreshes your zones, domains and certificates about once an hour, and each domain's details every six hours.

#What it can't do

The IONOS API manages domains you already have, and nothing more:

• Registering or transferring in a domain is done in the IONOS control panel. IONOS isn't offered in domain search.
• Renewing on demand and switching auto-renew on or off — IONOS renews through your IONOS contract.
• Creating or deleting a DNS zone — create it in the IONOS control panel, and it appears here on the next sync.
• Some settings for some extensions. IONOS says per extension whether nameservers, transfer lock, WHOIS privacy and DNSSEC can be changed, and InfraNest greys out what it can't.
• DNS record types are limited to A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, TXT, NS, SRV and CAA.

#Troubleshooting

• "Authentication failed" — make sure you pasted the whole key, including the part before the dot (prefix.secret), and that it's still active in IONOS.
• A zone is missing — create it in the IONOS control panel first; InfraNest picks it up on the next sync.

TipIf you manage several IONOS accounts, give each connection a clear Account label so you can tell them apart at a glance.
