About domains

A plain-language guide to the Domains page in InfraNest — for anyone who owns or manages domains and wants to see them all in one place, catch problems early, and avoid surprise renewals or lapses.

#Overview

• Brings in domains from every registrar you connect (GoDaddy, Cloudflare, IONOS, TransIP, Namecheap, AWS and more) and keeps them up to date automatically.
• Lets you manage domains directly — nameservers, renewal, transfer lock, WHOIS privacy, auto-renew, DNSSEC, contacts and the transfer (EPP) code.
• Only shows actions your registrar or domain ending actually supports, so you never hit a dead end.
• Warns you ahead of expiry, and flags domains nothing is using so you stop paying for them.
• Checks each domain's security with the Security Advisor, and fixes common issues in one click.

#See how your domains are doing

1. Click Domains in the sidebar menu. This always opens the Overview tab.

2. Read the summary line at the top — it tells you how many domains are fine, how many need you, how many renew automatically, and when InfraNest last synced with your registrars.
3. Check What needs me? for cards about anything urgent — a domain about to expire with nothing renewing it, DNSSEC that stopped working, a nameserver not answering, or a registrar that stopped syncing.
4. On a domain nothing is using, choose Let it lapse to turn off auto-renew, or Keep it to record why you're keeping it.
5. On a domain about to expire, choose Turn on auto-renew or Renew now.
6. If a registrar connection has stopped syncing, click Reconnect (sign-in based) or Update the key (API key based) to fix it.
7. Scroll down to see What will renewals cost? for the next 12 months, and Could a registrar you already use renew it cheaper? for savings suggestions — click Review the moves to see the full plan.
8. Check the protection summary near the bottom — one line per setting (auto-renew, transfer lock, WHOIS privacy, DNSSEC, CAA records, email protection, certificate monitoring) — and click Turn on for 5 (or similar) to fix the rest at once.

TipThe same urgent cards also appear on Home. Use Snooze until tomorrow or This is intentional to set one aside in both places, and Bring back to undo it later.

#Add or track a domain

1. From the Domains page, look for Found elsewhere in InfraNest if InfraNest has spotted domains used by your DNS zones, certificates, monitors or status pages but not yet in your list.
2. Import a found domain from its registrar, or click Track it to add it without connecting the registrar. Use Not mine to hide one that belongs to someone else.
3. To add any other domain, click the Add domain button and search for it, or choose Track a domain and type its name if it's at a registrar InfraNest can't connect to, or in an account that isn't yours.
4. For a tracked domain, open its page and click Connect {registrar} if InfraNest supports that registrar — this turns it (and your other domains there) into a managed domain. If it isn't supported, click Ask us to support {registrar}.

NoteTracked domains are read-only here — InfraNest reads their registrar, dates, transfer lock and nameservers from the registry and refreshes them daily, but you change settings at the registrar itself. Tracked domains still count toward your plan's domain limit.

#Review a single domain

1. From the Domains list, click a domain to open its page. The status line at the top explains what happens next, for example Active · renews itself on 14 March 2027.

2. Use the Overview tab to see anything needing attention, plus How it's set up and What runs on the domain.

3. In the Registration card, check the registrar, expiry, renewal price, the auto-renew switch, and transfer protection (the lock, or Show code for domains that use a transfer code instead). Expand Registry record for the raw registry details.

4. In the Protection card, review DNSSEC, CAA, SPF, DMARC and nameservers. Click Fix N in one go to see what's fixed automatically, what needs adding to the DNS zone, and what needs changing at your registrar.

5. Check Owner for the domain's contacts.

6. Open the Protection tab for advisor checks, mail record monitoring, certificates, monitors, alert routing, and expected certificate authorities.

7. Open the Activity tab to see the domain's full history.

8. In the What runs on [your domain] table, click any entry to jump straight to that record, server, certificate or monitor. If some addresses have no monitor, click Monitor all to add one to each in a single step.

#Tips

• An expired domain shows a What happens next timeline — the grace period (still renews at the normal price), redemption (your registrar charges a restore fee), and pending delete (nothing can be done) — so you know exactly how much time is left.
• A domain among the most-visited sites on the web is marked urgent and moves to the top of What needs me? if it's about to lapse.

#Troubleshooting

• A setting looks greyed out or says "Not used by .nl" (or similar): that setting doesn't exist for that domain ending — it's left out of the overview counts.
• A setting shows Unknown: the registry or registrar doesn't publish that information (for example, auto-renew on a tracked domain). If an expiry date passes and the registry still shows the old date, double-check at the registrar.
• You need to change a setting InfraNest can't change directly: click Turn it on at [registrar] to open that registrar's own dashboard — your change shows up here after the next daily registry check.
